Diners Split Meals to Save Bucks

The question – once considered a bit gauche in some circles – is now being asked by diners of all kinds at restaurants in every price range. With the economy still souring, splitting an appetizer, dessert and even an entree is becoming, for many, an easy way to save a few dollars without sacrificing the indulgence of a dinner out.

Budget crises put tax refund checks on hold

Wow, this could really cause a lot of distress.

You’ve probably heard before that if you’re getting a big, fat tax refund check, you’re doing something wrong. Now there’s a new reason to fine-tune those payroll withholding elections. The economic meltdown is hitting statehouses around the country so hard that some are holding their residents’ tax refund checks hostage.

Budget crises in Kansas and California have already forced those states to halt tax refund processing. In California, there’s even been talk of sending out government IOUs instead of money.

Bit of a server glitch

I’m not sure what happened, but earlier this morning the server wasn’t responding. Everything was running, but it wouldn’t serve up any pages. After poking it with a stick, poof, it starting working again. Nothing changed and I don’t see any errors so I really have no explanation. But it all appears to be running again, so sorry about the site not being available this morning. Rest assured we are not the victims of some nefarious plot or hostile takeover. I can’t dispute a fly in the ointment or bats in the belfry, but we should be good to go.
